Phase 1During the Phase One, BE gum chewing causes stimulation of salivary flow. This increased saliva fluid volume assists in the release of oral material within the gingival-dentition pockets in conjunction with the mechanical action of the gum matrix massaging the gingiva.

Phase 2During Phase Two, the gum's base matrix containing Carbon is absorbent of saliva which contains the chemical substances released from the pockets and are trapped within the matrix. The matrix is composed of a proprietary blend of GRAS materials. The micro abrasive nature of the gum matrix frees oral mucousal lining's cellular material into the saliva. Repetitive chewing action on BE gum maneuvers the chewing gum over a significant percentage of the oral cavity allowing near total oral cavity sampling. The action of chewing naturally creates folds the gum upon itself trapping saliva in pockets of the gum's folds. These gum folds contain cellular material as well.

Phase 3Phase Three, the chewed gum containing bound cellular and saliva chemical material is collected by expectoration into a trash repository or if laboratory testing on the salivary trapped contents or cellular material; into a collection cup. The possibility of genetic testing and flow cytometry on the cellular material is available. Quantitative and qualitative chemical testing on the chemical substances trapped is novel for a gum product.
